My friend Lucas is running the Hamburg marathon to help raise money for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) research. DMD is a progressive, terminal, muscle-wasting illness.

Lucas' friend's 5-year old son Joey has recently been diagnosed with this terrible disease. Although Joey is a happy 5 year old, unless a cure or treatment is found Joey and other children like him will slowly lose the use of all their major muscles, be in a wheelchair by around 10 years old, slowly lose the ability to move use their arms and all other major muscles, eventually they will need 24 hour care and will be lucky to live past their late teens. Currently, Duchene is 100% fatal.
